Dubbed as the "Picasso of India," M.F. Husain is an avant-garde modernist who gave Indian art a revamped face through bold and colorful works he did to express emotions and narratives from Indian culture, mythology, and history. His career has traversed both acclaim and controversy—more so for his depictions of Hindu goddesses—with global exhibitions and prestigious honors accorded him in terms of conferring upon him the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. But for all the huge backlash that precipitated his exile, the influence of Husain on modern Indian art has been profound and lasting.
